Province of Surrey Guildford Cathedral Abseil

On Saturday 6th May, Surrey Masons, joined by family and friends, took on a big challenge in aid of their 2019 Festival.

Guildford Cathedral was the iconic setting for this year’s 2019 Festival’s big challenge as members of the executive, fellow masons, family and friends gathered to abseil down the outside of its ecclesiastical tower.

The gallant band of thrill-seekers were led by the Provincial Grand Master, Ian Chandler who was delighted to see that the event was so well supported and by such a wide age range, with the oldest participant being 84 year old Vic Pierson.

Speaking after his abseil, Ian said:

It’s great to see so many people here raising money for such a deserving cause and adding funds to the 2019 Festival. Thanks go to everyone concerned, especially W.Bro Terry Owens and his incredibly supportive family for organising the event and for ensuring the whole thing went off safely and according to plan, not to forget his daughter Zoe who was the first down on the wire!

By Saturday evening the Abseil had raised over £20,000, with more expected to be added over the coming weeks as sponsorship money is collected.
